Inside Defenders minicamp: Day 6

DC Defenders linebacker Jesse Aniebonam goes through drills at minicamp in Cole Field House

COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- With the temperatures dropping and the overnight rain turning into snow, the walk to Cole Field House for Day 6 of Defenders minicamp was as cold as ever.

But the action inside the practice facility remained hot.

The final full day before a regeneration day on Thursday, head coach Pep Hamilton emphasized energy and both mental and physical commitment. The Defenders went right into conditioning competitions and continued battling until the energy was where it needed to be.

DEFENDERS STANDOUT(S) OF THE DAY:

Jesse Aniebonam, LB: The former Maryland Terrapin is a physical specimen. The 6-3, 260-pound outside linebacker looks menacing from head to toe and backed it up on Wednesday. On his home turf, the Silver Spring, Md. native almost always appeared to be a step ahead of his opponent in 1-on-1 drills.

While he's not the most gregarious player on the defense, Aniebonam was constantly observing the action and picking the brains of his teammates and coaches.

Sam Montgomery, DE: The former LSU Tiger is always one of the vocal leaders of the front-seven, and Montgomery led by example during the "Class of Grass" sessions. His anticipation and execution skills were on display, receiving vocal praises from defensive coordinator Jeff FitzGerald and the rest of the coaching staff.

Max McCaffrey, WR: The Defenders wide receivers have been fun to watch at minicamp, due in large part to McCaffrey. You would expect nothing less from a player with his athletic pedigree, but what stands out is his route-running and pass-catching.

TWEET OF THE DAY:

Meet Cole Boozer: Your favorite football guy's favorite football guy.

COLE STROLL, EP 5.: COLE BOOZER, OT

The Cole Stroll with Cole, on a very cold day. The affable big man wasn't fazed by the weather, and even brought his own hype man, fellow lineman Logan Tuley-Tillman along for the walk.

We hope it's as fun to watch as it was to film.

UP NEXT:

Thursday is a regeneration day for the players. But XFL commissioner Oliver Luck will be in town to meet the Defenders and the Defenders fans for a special Q&A at The G.O.A.T. in Arlington, Va.
