Dragons Training Camp: Day 7

Dragons Scrimmage Renegades Saturday

HOUSTON - The Seattle Dragons practiced with another XFL team for the first time.

Bob Stoops and the Dallas Renegades opened their practice field to Coach Jim Zorn's team Saturday.  Across the XFL, all 8 teams paired off and scrimmaged one week into leaguewide training camp in Texas.

Zorn and Stoops are two of the most recognizable coaches in the XFL.  The Renegades' coach and longtime University of Oklahoma icon was impressed with what the Dragons brought to the scrimmage.

Not only was (Zorn) a great player in the NFL, I thought he was a great coach too. Seeing him out here, it was great to connect again, and his team looks good.

Both Zorn and Stoops admitted the best part of the day was avoiding any big injuries.  Dallas already suffered a major blow earlier this week when quarterback Landry Jones hurt his knee in practice.

Jones was the first player the XFL signed for the 2020 season, and his OU connection with Stoops instantly made the Dallas roster stand out headed into training camp.

Both teams kept their playbooks close to the vest and ran basic offenses Saturday, but Zorn commended his defensive backs and linebackers for repeatedly intercepting passes during the scrimmage.

Zorn also complimented his quarterbacks Brandon Silvers and BJ Daniels for their accuracy Saturday, throwing against the Renegades' defense.  They also threw against strong chilly winds all scrimmage.

The Dragons' starting quarterback has not been announced and the position battle is a healthy competition right now.  Stoops said he was impressed by Daniels' playmaking ability against his defense.  Zorn added Silvers had a strong all-around showing Saturday too.

The Dragons will continue team meetings this weekend and will take a day off from the practice field Sunday.

They'll hit the field again back at their training camp home Delmar Stadium Monday at 8:45am CST.

Next scrimmage against another XFL team will be Wednesday, when the Dragons welcome the Tampa Bay Vipers.
