Dragons Training Camp: Day 14

Ja'Quan Gardner dodging Defenders in joint practice

HOUSTON - Kickoff of the 2020 XFL season is three weeks away.  Saturday showcased a preview of what the first game will look like, as the Seattle Dragons stepped onto the same field as the DC Defenders.

Coach Jim Zorn's team arrived at Rice Stadium wearing their road white uniforms, the same look national-TV audiences will see February 8th when the Dragons play the Defenders on ABC.

Historic Rice Stadium, the training camp site for the Defenders, hosted intersquad drills and plays from scrimmage Saturday.  The action will intensify Monday, when the teams meet again for their final training camp scrimmage.

What really impressed me today was the guys trying to concentrate on some of the techniques we've been working on all camp, and we had a little success.

GM/Head Coach Jim Zorn

The Dragons got their first up-close look at Defenders QB Cardale Jones, whom they'll face in the opener.

Jones is one of the premier names to sign with an XFL team for the 2020 season.

Coach Zorn said he believes DC coach Pep Hamilton will sling the ball around with Jones this season.

As the Dragons faced Jones and other Defenders passers Saturday, the secondary continued to get after the ball.

Stribling also had a highlight interception this past week in a scrimmage with the Tampa Bay Vipers.  Coach Zorn continues to be impressed with the promise of his team's ability to generate takeaways.

Sunday the Dragons will rest from on-field activities, before scrimmaging the Defenders Monday in a dress rehearsal for the February 8th opener.
