HOUSTON -- On the third day of training camp the Houston Roughnecks are clearly making headway, building towards being one of the offensive powerhouses in the league. Both Quarterbacks, PJ Walker and Connor Cook had standout performances today and newcomer to the QB room, Marcus McDade, shined as well.

I think the guys are getting to know each other coming together as a group, that intangible chemistry is starting to develop

HC June Jones

The Roughnecks coaching staff continued to emphasize the importance of attention to detail and a relentless mindset - these seem to be paying off as Coach Jones noted, "I think the players are accepting our philosophies - they're starting to learn and talk the same language as we do and that's all part of coming together as a team."

With the new rule changes being introduced, the coaching staff has spent an extensive amount of time working on special teams at minicamp and now training camp. Each new rule adds another wrinkle into punts and on kickoffs. Since there will now be a significant increase in the number of returns, this requires serious attention to detail to contain the returner. Repetition on the field and when reviewing film after practice are how the team plans to prepare themselves for the new rules.
