Inside Defenders minicamp: Day 5

DC Defenders RB Khalid Abdullah at Day 5 of XFL minicamp.

COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- Day 5 of DC Defenders training camp was rocking on Tuesday with the type of energy and toughness head coach Pep Hamilton preaches day in and day out.

The Defenders are going to bring the energy.

That much we are very certain of.

Khari Lee, TE: Not only is the Bowie State graduate big, he’s also incredibly quick and agile. The Baltimore native was a constant standout performer in the non-contact 1-on-1 drills, creating separation thanks to his crisp route-running and sharp cutting abilities.

Every time you looked up, Lee was hauling in a pass and creating yards after the catch.

Scooby Wright, LB: The reason he was a highly decorated college star at Arizona is wildly apparent on the turf.

He’s the most vocal player in the middle of the field and is always in the right place. He was efficient and consistent in his pass coverage and run support.

Khalid Abdullah, RB: The former James Madison Duke and MVP of the 2016 FCS National Championship game looks like he was constructed out of granite but moves like a high-performance vehicle.

While he’s a smooth runner, he also runs with power and speed, a potent combination.

Rahim Moore, S: The former 2011 second-round NFL draft pick was an aggressive ballhawk on Tuesday, frequently leaving his mark at the end of players with brutish pass defense or a well-timed deflection.

His ability to cover ground quickly was also very noticeable. He plays with energy, intensity, and limitless swagger.

I can tell you this. We are going to have toughness, and a lot of it.
