Guardians' Training Camp: Day 8
HOUSTON – The New York Guardians took to the practice field on Tuesday under the Texas rain for their first workout since their scrimmage with the St. Louis Battlehawks last week.
Guardians head coach Kevin Gilbride spoke candidly about different aspects of the team’s first joint workout.
“In terms of physical energy from the scrimmage, I was happy," said Gilbride. “I also thought there was some improvement throwing the ball.”
However, the running game remains a work in progress. Gilbride said there were too many “inconsistencies” in the run game. He also expects improvement with the defense.
“I thought we weren’t as tough defensively. We have been pretty good. But we have been blitzing a lot in practice and we tried to play the scrimmage a little more straight up."
"It was great that we did the scrimmage. We needed to see it and see the consequences when you don't do things exactly right."
The Guardians have two players from LSU, who takes on Clemson for the NCAA National Title tonight, defensive back Terrance Alexander and offensive guard Garrett Brumfield. Both gave some love to the Tigers before tonight's showdown.
Next Up: DC Defenders
The Guardians will hold a joint practice with the DC Defenders on Wednesday, January 15.
