Roughnecks Training Camp Day 2

Roughnecks Director of Pro Personnel Randy Mueller speaks to FOX 26's Nate Griffin.

HOUSTON -- The camp grind began early Monday morning as the team hit the field at TDECU stadium. “Boy, this is is great football weather ain’t it?” remarked strength & conditioning coach, Ray Wright, and rightly so as the team went to work under the brisk morning sun.

The day started off with a visit from FOX 26 Houston, as Nate Griffin went live from practice with head coach June Jones.

"I’m gonna have fun coaching this team, and we want to make it a great experience for the whole city."

Going into Training Camp, the Roughnecks also made the following roster changes:

Roster Moves

Marcus McDade, QB, Sacramento State

Steve McShane, RB, Western Illinois

Toby Weathersby, OT, Louisiana State

Devonte Williams, CB, Texas A&M-Kingsville

Akrum Wadley, RB, Iowa

Make no mistake, camp has been serious business, but moments like the one above are not hard to come by. It's cool to see a man the likes of coach Ted Cottrell, whose resume (Chiefs, Bills, Cardinals, Jets, Vikings), experience, and character commands the respect of his players,  while being relatable, funny, and very down to earth.

The team continued the installation of their playbook yesterday, building off of the foundations left from Minicamp. The systems being implemented by the coaching staff require an extensive understanding in order to run the plays successfully. With each practice, the team has seen greater improvements on both sides of the ball.
