Dragons Training Camp: Day 5

Picking up the pace Thursday

HOUSTON - The Seattle Dragons returned to the practice field at Delmar Stadium Thursday, after taking Wednesday to focus on walkthroughs and rest. On day 5 the pads returned. The pace intensified.

It's becoming clear how quick XFL football will look next month, as the Dragons continued to work on timing around the recently-revealed rules and the 25-second play clock after the ball is spotted.  (Read the full XFL rules, unveiled Tuesday)

Special teams also spent much of the morning practice adjusting to one of the most imaginative XFL rules, the kickoff:

Thursday marked the first training camp practice with cloud cover in Houston, where all eight XFL teams are stationed this month. The Dragons will get a chance to scrimmage against another team Saturday, when they travel west to Darrell Tully Stadium, where the Dallas Renegades practice.

The famed coaches of the Dragons and the Renegades have already discussed what that encounter will look like.

Bob (Stoops) and I have talked about how we want to conduct that, so we have a plan. It will be fun to go against another team, this will be the first time we've done it.

Coach Jim Zorn

With the Houston weather shifting Thursday from crisp and clear mornings to cloudy and humid, the Dragons' coaching staff is keeping an eye on the forecast for Saturday's scrimmage.

Should heavy rain fall and interrupt practice between now and then, the Dragons will move to the indoor football facility at the University of Houston.

Friday the Dragons are scheduled to practice again at 8:45am CST.
