Guardians Training Camp: Day 1
HOUSTON -- Training camp has started for the New York Guardians at Houston Baptist University in Texas. The players returned to the practice field for the first time since the holidays but as expected there was some rust.
“I wanted to get them back to where we were in December,” said Guardians Head Coach Kevin Gilbride. Historically, when you separate like we did the first time back is a little sloppy. And it was.”
There were some blown coverages by the defense during the 7-on-7 drills and some overthrown passes to receivers, Coach Gilbride also mentioned another reason for the on-the-field mistakes Sunday morning.
“We changed a few things from December as we examined it and it also contributed to the number of mistakes that we made today,” said Gilbride.
However, there were some good plays that came out of the first session. Check out DeAngelo Yancey!
With just 35 days away until the season opener with Tampa Bay Vipers, Coach Gilbride remains optimistic about the work thats ahead.
“I think the enthusiasm was good particularly on the defensive side of the ball for the first day. Offensively, I think the players recognize that we need to get better.”
