Around the XFL: Joint Practices, Part 2
The Seattle Dragons and DC Defenders gathered after Saturday's joint practice as they look ahead to kicking off the 2020 season.
HOUSTON -- For the second straight Saturday, the XFL held four joint practices.
On Day 14 of Training Camp, teams appeared to avoid revealing any significant strategy or information; they'll repeat these matchups during a Monday or Tuesday scrimmage and in Week 1 of the XFL season.
Don't let that make you think there weren't plenty of higlights to share, though.
Seattle Dragons at DC Defenders
Beginning with a Dragon's eye view of Rice Stadium:
Meanwhile, on the ground, Seattle cornerback Channing Stribling added to his pile of picks during his time in Houston. (Read more about him.)
Defenders safety Rahim Moore plucked his own with a tip drill takeaway:
DC wideout Jordan Westerkamp went up for the advantage.
All in all, the rainy Saturday brought a colorful display:
Los Angeles Wildcats at Houston Roughnecks
Solid quarterback play graced the field at TDECU Stadium, the Roughnecks' home.
Head coach June Jones has a crowded, talented quarterback room, with Phillip Walker, Connor Cook and Marcus McDade.
This throw from McDade to wide receiver Blake Jackson ... would you describe it as a blade, a laser, or a blazer?
On the other side, Wildcats wideout Saeed Blacknall tiptoed to a touchdown:
The Penn State alum, who once held the nickname 'Megatron Jr.', put on that show the day after giving us a look deep inside his practice routes through a helmet cam:
New York Guardians at Tampa Bay Vipers
At George Turner Stadium, Guardians wide receiver Teo Redding lept at the chance to make a name for himself early.
The Vipers were just trying to match the chatter by quarterback Aaron Murray, who recently was mic'd up:
Someone who deserves a bigger spotlight is Vipers tight end Nick Truesdell, who could be one of the club's main cogs on offense.
Dessert? 'I'll take a scoop and a score, please,' said Guardians linebacker Ben Heeney.
Dallas Renegades at St. Louis BattleHawks
W.W. Thorne Stadium saw a gathering of ex-Hawkeyes:
The new kickoff formation? Cleared to Engage.
The Renegades -- and the photographers -- were busy focusing on receiver/quarterback Jerrod Heard (click through the tweet for a four-part thread):
Breaking: The BattleHawks quarterback competition has been decided!
Wait, correction: St. Louis slingers Brogan Roback, Jordan Ta'amu and Taylor Heinicke competed in a game of "PIG" (a quicker version of HORSE).
